Affordable smartphone manufacturer Realme is taking its first steps into the local 5G market with the release of the Realme 7 5G, a $499 handset touting next generation connectivity.
Key specifications for the Realme 7 5G include a 6.5-inch 1080p+ display with 120Hz, a MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging. On the back, you'll find a 48MP primary lens, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP macro lens, and 2MP depth lens. On the front, there's a 16MP selfie camera.
Priced at $499, the Realme 7 5G is one of the most affordable 5G smartphones in Australia, matching the Motorola Moto G 5G Plus. The pair are rather similar in specifications, but the Moto G 5G Plus has a larger display that has a slightly slower refresh rate of 90Hz. The phones also have different processors under the hood. You can read our review of the Moto G 5G Plus here.
Given the infancy of the 5G rollout, there's no need to rush out and own a 5G phone for the sake of owning a 5G phone. You won't get any benefits in the short term. 5G connectivity is a welcome bit of future-proofing, but we'll be curious to see how the Realme 7 5G stacks up when you're not considering the next generation network.
You'll be able to get the Realme 7 5G in a choice of Mist Blue or Flash Silver.
Realme 7 5G pre-orders are open from today direct from Realme and JB Hi-Fi, ahead of a February 11 release date. The first 4,000 customers to purchase a Realme 7 5G will get a bonus pair of Realme Buds Q valued at $79.
The Realme 7 5G will also be available through retailers including Officeworks, Bing Lee, and Amazon come February 11.
