Optus has dropped handset repayment costs on a number of popular handsets in preparation for the launch of iPhone 6.
iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 are all reduced, with the majority of these handsets now $0 on an $80 plan.
| New handset prices | $60 Plan | $80 Plan | $100 Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 5s 16GB | $74 | $80 | $100 |
| iPhone 5s 32GB | $76 | $80 | $100 |
| iPhone 5s 64GB | $79 | $82 | $100 |
| iPhone 5c 16GB | $65 | $80 | $100 |
| iPhone 5c 32GB | $69 | $80 |
$100
|
| Samsung Galaxy S5 | $72 | $80 | $100 |
| Samsung Galaxy Note 3 | $70 | $80 | $100 |
Handset repayments on its $60 plans still remains reasonably expensive, with all handsets fetching $10 or more per month, except the iPhone 5c models.
This, in unison with recent promotional data boosts for $80 and $100 plans, reinforces expectations that Optus is working hard to move post-paid customers to higher pricing tiers. Last year, the telco’s pricing sweet spot for iPhone 5s was the $60 plan, but it is expected that the best value options will be on the $80 My Plan Plus.
Considering that the iPhone 5s and 5c models will be superseded in a week’s time, these aren’t exactly Fire Sale prices. That said, but you can be sure they are cheaper than prices for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be.
