Optus today reports expanded reach of its 4G network in the Northern Territory, with the faster data speeds now available beyond just the CBD in Darwin.
Customers in Fannie Bay, Ludmilla, Coconut Grove, Nightcliff, Millner, Winnellie, Moil and Knuckey Lagoon should enjoy a big increase in data speeds, so too students at Charles Darwin University and travellers stopping at Darwin International Airport.
The expanded network is delivered over the 700MHz network frequency, a section of which Optus purchased after free-to-air TV signals ceased transmitting on these airwaves.
This means customers will need a device compatible with this spectrum band to take advantage of the network enhancements. Many of the top tier devices released this year are already compatible, including the iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G3. Upcoming phones like the Galaxy Note 4 are also 4G ready on the 700MHz band.
Optus is not alone in enhancing its 4G offering using the 700MHz frequency. Telstra will also make use of the spectrum, with its 4GX service already active in most capital cities across the country.
