After becoming a major player in the smartphone world, OPPO is now setting its sights on wearables with its first smartwatch set to land on Aussie shelves on September 29.
Dubbed the OPPO Watch, the device takes Google's Wear OS operating system and shoves it into a form-factor awfully reminiscent of an Apple Watch. The wearable will be available in two different sizes - 41mm or 46mm - and there are a few key differences to be aware of.
The 41mm OPPO Watch has a flat display, can last up to 24 hours per charge, and is water-resistant to 30 metres. The 46mm has a curved display, can last up to 36 hours per charge, and is water-resistant to 50 metres. Both also have power saving modes that cull everything but basic functionality, and extend run time to 14 days and 21 days, respectively.
Otherwise, core functionality is the same. You've got the standard smartphone features you'd expect including notifications, messaging, music playback, and mobile payments. Workout tracking is also onboard, with the watches touting five exercise sensors, and a heart rate monitor. There's also sleep tracking for those happy to take their OPPO Watch to bed.
Both devices are made from an aluminium alloy and come with a fluroelastomer strap.
A 41mm OPPO Watch will set you back $449, while a 46mm model is a little pricier at $549. The smaller model is available in a choice of black or pink gold, while the larger comes in black or standard gold. Both will be available directly from OPPO, from JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Kogan, Bing Lee, MobileCiti, and Amazon.
The timing of OPPO's announcement is rather coincidental, with Apple overnight confirming it will hold an event next week where it is set to unveil a new Apple Watch or two.
