OPPO has confirmed that an “Ultra” photography-focused variant of its Find X9 Pro is on the way.
The company issued the first teaser for the new device as part of its presence at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, confirming that the Find X9 Ultra would be available later this year.
However, the Chinese manufacturer held back on pretty much all the juicy details. Aside from the confirmation that an upgraded version of the Find X9 is on the way, there’s not much to go on here.
Still, OPPO Europe CEO Elvis Zhou did shed some light on what consumers might be able to expect. Speaking to press, he suggested that the new device would see OPPO continue its collaboration with Hasselblad and deliver the most advanced imaging system the brand has ever built.
“It builds on our continual collaboration in professional imaging and colour science, so it brings together the next-generation optics and our latest breakthrough in optical technology,” he said.
According to Zhou, the big picture vision here is to build something that feels like less of a smartphone with a high-end camera and more like a high-end camera that can make phone calls.
“The true meaning of Ultra is not about having an ultra phone. It is about delivering an Ultra camera,” he explained.
It’s a compelling pitch, but one that comes with a pretty big caveat for local Aussies. An OPPO spokesperson told WhistleOut that there are currently no plans to launch the Find X9 Ultra in Australia, but if you do want to see the brand's next photography powerhouse make its way to the local market, then it might be time to get in the comments section.
