OPPO has officially taken the wraps off its latest flagship smartphone, the Find X3 Pro. The new handset is set to be the first phone we see powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 888 processor in Australia, and features both a 10-bit display and 10-bit cameras.
Before we go into the nitty gritty, the Find X3 Pro will set you back $1,699 outright and you'll be able to pre-order from April 1 ahead of a mid-April release date. An exact date has yet to be confirmed. The Find X3 Pro will be available in a choice of Blue or Gloss Black.
So what actually is 10-bit? 10-bit is used to refer to colour depth. A 10-bit image can display over a billion colours, but you can't see all of them without a 10-bit display. For comparison, most smartphones feature an 8-bit screen, which touts 16.7 million colours.
In the case of the Find X3 Pro it has both a 10-bit display and 10-bit cameras. This means it can capture, store, and display photos and video with up to a billion colours and makes it the only Android phone with an end-to-end 10-bit system. The iPhone 12 Pro family also feature 10-bit display and can record 10-bit videos.
In terms of the cameras themselves, you'll get a 50MP primary lens and 50MP ultra-wide lens. Both of these are capable of capturing 10-bit photos and video. These are joined by a 13MP 2x telephoto lens (with 5x hybrid zoom), and a 3MP microlens. The microlens is essentially a microscope lens, and facilitates 60x macro zoom.
The OPPO Find X3 Pro touts a 4,500mAh battery, which is the same as what we saw in last year's Find X2 Pro. In our testing, we found the Find X2 Pro struggled with battery life when connected to 5G networks, so we're hoping the more efficient Snapdragon 888 processor helps address this pain point.
As is the usual for OPPO phones, the Find X3 Pro features freakishly fast charging. A 10 minute charge will take you from flat to 40%.
It's also the first OPPO phone to launch in Australia with wireless charging. When used with OPPO's wireless charger, you can take the phone from flat to full in 80 minutes. In both cases, you'll require an OPPO proprietary charger to achieve those speeds. the Find X3 Pro will still work with standard Qi wireless chargers, however.
Oddly, the OPPO Find X3 Pro features an exclusive ringtone composed by Hans Zimmer. We presume it will be a banger.
The Find X3 Pro is being joined by two more affordable handsets: the Find X3 Neo and the Find X3 Lite. Here's how the trio compare in terms of specs:

The Find X3 Neo is a step down from the Pro, featuring last year's flagship Qualcomm processor - the Snapdragon 865 - instead of the newer Snapdragon 888. While it shares the same primary and telephoto lenses, the ultra-wide angle has been swapped for a 16MP lens and the microlens has been replaced with a 2MP macro camera. The display is still 10-bit, however. The Find X3 Neo will set you back $1,199 outright and will also be available to pre-order from April 1. You'll be able to get it in a choice of Galactic Silver or Starlight Black.

On the other hand, the Find X3 Lite is a completely different beast. The main feature it shares with the rest of the Find X3 family is the name; every spec other than selfie camera has been swapped for something a bit more midrange. Of course, this also makes the Find X3 Lite the cheapest device in the family, retailing for $749 outright. It will also be available to pre-order from April 1. You'll be able to get in a choice of Starry Black or Astral Blue.
Both devices will be available mid-April. Exact dates have yet to be confirmed.
