OPPO has a reputation for making great value smartphones, but its potentially outdone itself with the A52.
The $299 OPPO A52 is powered by a Snapdragon 665 processor, a chipset typically used by far pricier phones. It’s roughly on par with the Snapdragon 670 processor found in the $649 Pixel 3a, and only a tad slower than the Helio P90 powering the $599 OPPO Reno2 Z.
It's obviously impossible to judge real world performance from a spec sheet - there are plenty of other factors that can affect just how smoothly a smartphone runs day-to-day - but on paper, the A52 sure sounds promising.
The phone's 5,000mAh battery is also a standout spec. OPPO hasn't provided estimates of how long it will last per charge, but we're guessing that chonky a battery should easily make it through at least two days. Better yet, the A52 supports fast charging - a feature you typically wouldn't find on a $299 phone. A 45 minute top-up will take the A52 from flat to 50%.
Other key specifications for the OPPO A52 include a 6.5-inch 1080p+ display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage. The quad rear-facing camera configuration is made up of a 12MP primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth lens.
The OPPO A52 is available for pre-order from today through JB Hi-Fi for $299 ahead of a May 11 release date. You'll be able to get it in a choice of "Twilight Black" or "Stream White". Once May 11 hits, you'll also find it at Officeworks, Kogan, Bing Lee, The Good Guys, MobileCiti, and Woolworths Mobile.
