Internode has launched its new no-contract 4G NodeMobile plans. Coinciding with the activation of 25 4G LTE sites in Adelaide, NodeMobile offers 4G speeds on the Optus network to existing Internode fixed-line customers.
The plans are BYO handset, but Internode does offer options for purchasing a new model.
Plans and handsets
The plan options are as follows:
The setup fee is $10, with a further $5 for delivery anywhere in Australia. The standard rate for a call (to Australian mobile or fixed line) is 35 cents flagfall & 90 cents per minute, charged in 30 second blocks. SMS text messages are 25 cents each. Data usage in excess of the monthly cap is charged at 20 cents per MB.
The social media allowance is 150GB, making all mobile-access to social media essentially free. This cap does not include tethering; providing a connection to any other device via your phone will count towards the regular data allowance.
Handsets
Internode offers a variety of Samsung handsets for either outright purchase, or on a 24-month payment contract. Currently the only two 4G LTE handsets are the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Samsung Galaxy Note II. Both devices are priced at $792 outright or $33 per month, which works out to exactly $792 over the two year repayment plan.
BlackBerry users should be warned that many BB services are not available on the NodeMobile network. These services include Internet, Messenger and Email. Calls and SMS will still function.
All other unlocked devices cleared for use in Australia should work. These handsets should support the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequency bands for 2G coverage, and the 900 MHz and 2100 MHz bands for 3G coverage.
Availability
NodeMobile plans are not available to everyone. Only customers with a fixed Internode connection, such as ADSL, Fibre to the Home, Fixed-Wireless Broadband or NodeLine are eligible.
As for coverage, Internode’s mobile plans function over the Optus network, which currently covers over 97% of the Australian population. For more detailed information you can check out Internode’s mobile coverage map.
