Huawei has confirmed that a number of its recent smartphones will be upgraded to Android 10, running the company's own EMUI 10 skin, starting from this month. This is is notable because of the dispute between the US government and Huawei, which cast some doubt as to whether Huawei handsets would get further official software updates.
The EMUI 10 rollout schedule for Australia will start in January, and include the P30 Pro, P30, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20, Porsche Design Mate 20 Pro, and Nova 5T. There is however one caveat: you'll only get the upgrade in January if you didn't buy your Huawei device on a plan.
If you bought any of the above devices through Telstra, Optus, or Vodafone, you'll be waiting until February for EMUI 10 as telcos also do their own internal software upgrade tests.
February will also bring EMUI 10 updates for the Mate 10 Pro, Mate 10, Porsche Design Mate 10 Pro, Porsche Design Mate 10, and Y9 Prime. Once again, you'll need to wait a month longer if you bought any of these devices on a plan.
Lastly, the P30 Lite will also get updated to EMUI 10 in March.
The P20 Pro and P20 are notable omissions from the update schedule, despite the fact they're more recent than the Mate 10 Pro.
Notable EMUI 10 features include a cleaner user interface, improved battery performance, and a Dark Mode. You can read more about EMUI 10 here.
