Despite its geopolitical misfortunes, Huawei is persevering in the Australian market with the launch of its Watch Fit. As the name may suggest, the Watch Fit is Huawei's latest fitness tracker / smartwatch hybrid. You'll find traditional smartwatch functionality like notification mirroring, but the wearable is very much designed for exercise.
With that in mind, you get functionality like heart rate tracking, blood oxygen monitoring, stress tracking, and sleep tracking. There are also animated workout modes designed to act as a sort of wrist-based personal trainer. In addition, the Huawei Watch Fit touts 96 exercise tracking options, but this does kind of seem like overkill. For example, there are at least six different dance tracking modes: belly dance, jazz dance, Latin dance, ballet, plaza dance, and dance. There's also a mode to track the calories you burn while hunting, which is a tad concerning.
Other key specifications include a 1.64-inch display, 5 ATM water-resistance and a battery said to last up to 10 days. Huawei says you can get a full day of use from a five minute charge.
While Huawei smartphones are in somewhat of a problematic place thanks to the whole situation with the US, Huawei wearables don't share the same issues. Huawei wearables run Huawei's own operating system, rather than Google-based software, so they've not been impacted by the trade ban.
You can use the Huawei Watch Fit with both Android and iOS devices, but iPhone owners will miss out on some functionality. Music playback controls, cycle tracking, stress tracking, and low heart rate notifications won't work on iOS, for example.
When testing one of Huawei's other watches earlier this year, we found we had to sideload the Huawei App Gallery on Android devices to setup it up properly, but the company tells us this issue has been resolved. Huawei Watch Fit owners shouldn't have any issues downloading the Huawei Health app on Android or iOS.
The Huawei Watch Fit is available now for $249 direct through Huawei, and via JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, Amazon, Mobileciti, and Kogan. You can get in a choice of black, green, or pink, but not all retailers will have all colours.

Huawei's new wearable launch coincides with the company opening its second Australian store in Sydney, as part of World Square in the CBD. Huawei also has a store in Sydney suburb Chatswood, and is planning to open one in Hurtsville before the end of the year.
