Huawei today announced a new pair of wire-free headphones: the FreeBuds 3. Try saying that three times fast.
The somewhat awkwardly named FreeBuds 3 are the latest in Huawei's true wireless earbud family, and they come with one big improvement: active noise-cancellation. Despite being similar in size to Apple's AirPods, Huawei says the FreeBuds 3 can reduce ambient noise by up to 15dBs.
In addition, the company claims the headphones can "defeat the wind" and block harsh vibes around you when you're making a phone call. Essentially, the FreeBuds 3 should make your voice clearer for whoever is on the other end of the line. Huawei says this is still effective when cycling as fast as 20km per hour.

The secret sauce behind the FreeBuds 3 is a new in-house wearable chip, the Kirin A1. Huawei says the chip offers the fastest Bluetooth transmission speed around, which can facilitate experiences like listening to Ultra High Definition audio. Huawei says the Kirin A1 will also end up in smart glasses and smart speakers.
The FreeBuds 3 come with a rather unique circular charging case. You'll get four hours of playtime from a single charge, and up to 20 hours before you have to recharge the case.
We've not had a chance to go ears-on with the new FreeBuds yet, but we're very keen to see how they stack other wire-free options like the Powerbeats Pro and Sony WF-1000XM3s.
Local pricing and available for the FreeBuds 3 has yet to be announced, but you'll be able to get them in a choice of white or black.
