Sony is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its 1000X series headphones with a pricey new pair dubbed "The Collexion". The $999.95 cans sit at the top of the line of Sony's consumer noise-cancelling headphones, rather than replacing the current generation WH-1000XM6s.
In addition to improved sound quality, Sony's pitch for The Collexion headphones is built around luxury and comfort. In the press release, the manufacturer calls out sandblasted metal on the headband, a new faux leather finish, and an improved ergonomic structure for longer listening sessions.
While Sony's WH-1000X over-ear headphones have typically been collapsible, the design used for the Collexion headphones means they only fold flat. This leads to a bit of a different carrying case, which even has a handle of sorts.
One trade-off made by The Collexion headphones is battery life. Sony says the pair will last up to 24 hours per charge with noise-cancelling on, which is six hours shorter than the WH-1000XM6s.
The Collexion headphones are available to purchase now, in a choice of platinum or black. At $999.95, they're some of the most expensive consumer-grade headphones in Australia, priced in line with Apple's AirPods Max 2.
