HTC has launched the super-affordable Desire 610 through Telstra for $312 outright. Don’t let the low price deceive you, this phone is no slouch. It rocks a quad-core 1.2GHz processor and an 8MP camera, two things you won’t necessarily always find for that price. It also has HTC’s patented BoomSound front-facing speakers – a feature that we still can’t believe hasn’t been adopted by other manufacturers.
Compared to today’s fare it’s a small phone with its 4.7 inch 540x960 display. That’s not the sharpest resolution in the world, but it’s not too shabby for the price.
Probably the best addition for a phone in this price range is 4G connectivity. Not just that, but compatibility with Telstra’s new 700MHz 4G network, which will give you way better connection status indoors or underground. Granted, Telstra is yet to activate this network in most of Australia, but if you get the Desire 610 on a contract then you’ll definitely see the benefits during the life of your plan.
Other spec bits include 1GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage, a microSD slot for up to 128GB of added storage, and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n.
The Desire 610 on Telstra plans
Plans start off nice and low at just $55 per month, which will run you $1320 over the life of your plan. That option will get you 500MB of data and $550 value of talk and MMS. SMS is unlimited. On top of this you can opt for a further 500MB, bringing you up to 1GB, or $500 credit of calls/MMS, making it $1050.
Still, the average user on our site is looking for more than 1GB per month, so we’d suggest the $70 plan, coming to $1680 over 2 years. This one offers 1.5GB and $700 of talk/MMS, with the same options of 500MB or $500 credit. We feel most people would choose to up their data to 2GB, rather than adding more credit that, statistically speaking, they’re very unlikely to use.
