Your Netflix subscription will include games at no extra cost from tomorrow, for some reason. Seemingly no longer content with being a leading destination for TV and movies, the streaming giant is now offering subscribers a range of video games - at least on Android. Netflix says games will come to iPhone later this year.
The initial offering is fairly limited, with just five titles. These include Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3: The Game, Shooting Hoops, Card Blast, and Teeter Up. The five titles are already available on the Google Play Store (although you won't be able to play them without a subscription), but they'll also appear in the Netflix app from tomorrow. You'll still download them to your phone or tablet, rather than streaming them. This also means they'll work offline.
The games are all ad-free, and won't feature in-app purchases. Subscribers will be able to access them no matter what Netflix tier they're paying for. Games aren't available on kid profiles.
Netflix says it will continue to expand its range of mobile games in the months ahead. The streaming giant recently acquired Night School Studio, the developer of the critically acclaimed Oxenfree and Afterparty, so it seems pretty serious about the space.
