Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Netflix is once again getting more expensive in Australia. The streaming giant has increased its Standard plan pricing from $15.99 per month to $16.99 and Premium plan pricing from $19.99 per month to $22.99 per month. The entry-level Basic plan - which Netflix increased in September last year - will stay at $10.99 per month.
As is typical, Netflix says it increased prices in order to invest in more shows and films.
Despite the increase in price, Netflix's plan inclusions are still the same. Here are how inclusions and pricing compare across Netflix's three tiers:
Netflix prices in Australia
| Basic | Standard | Premium | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price per month | $10.99 | $16.99 | $22.99 |
| Resolution | SD | HD | Up to 4K |
| Simultaneous streams | 1 | 2 | 4 |
| Offline download devices | 1 | 2 | 4 |
Netflix's price changes are already in effect for new subscribers. Existing customers with a Standard or Premium plan will see the new pricing on their next bill.
The move makes Netflix even more expensive than the competition. For comparison, Binge and Stan both have entry-level tiers at $10 per month and standard tiers at $14 per month. Binge has a premium tier at $18 per month, while Stan's premium tier will set you back $17 per month. Amazon Prime Video is the cheapest mainstream service available locally, billed at $6.99 per month with no tiered options.
