Dodo is the latest smaller provider to add international roaming options to its SIM-only mobile plans. The Optus MVNO has a single international roaming pack available for customers: a 1GB pack billed at $10 per day.
The pack works in over 100 countries. These include large parts of Europe, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, China, and Japan. You'll also get unlimited talk and text.
Dodo's $10 per day 1GB roaming pack is average when it comes to value. Optus and Vodafone both charge $5 per day for international roaming. With Optus that $5 buys you 5GB, while Vodafone's $5 charge lets you use your Australian inclusions overseas.
Telstra's roaming is also billed at $10 per 1GB per day, on par with Dodo.
Other smaller providers have roaming packs with a longer expiry. A $25 roaming 365-day pack from amaysim comes with 2GB, while Belong charges $30 for 3GB with a 14-day expiry. felix mobile has a roaming pack where you pay $20 for 4GB, 100 texts, and 100 minutes of talk on a one-year expiry.
While that's not a lot of data, you don't don't need to pay $10 each day. A week roaming with Dodo would cost you $70.
Dodo roaming packs are activated through the MyDodo portal. Once enabled, you'll be charged $10 each day you use our service once you arrive at your destination. Receiving SMS is free, however. If you use your 1GB before midnight in your current time zone, you'll be charged a further $10. If you spend $100 in one day, Dodo will automatically disable roaming.
Dodo's roaming packs require an active Dodo SIM-only plan. Here are its current options:
