Boost Mobile today announced a new handset being added to its small stable of devices, promising the largest screen for the least money.
The new Boost View 5.0 sports a 5-inch LCD — around the size of the new iPhone 6. The screen doesn't share the iPhone’s super-sharp resolution, it's only 854 x 480, but then it doesn’t cost anywhere near as much. In fact, you can buy eight View 5.0 phones for the price of one Apple Jesus Phone.
The 5 in the View 5.0 title represents more than just the screen size, with a 5-megapixel camera sticking out the back of this phone. There’s also a front-facing camera for video calling.
Under the hood, the View 5.0 runs on Google’s Android. Boost is making Android a little better by including a number of popular social media apps on the phone out of the box. There’s Snapchat, Viber, PicSay, Shazam, Twitter and Facebook, plus Deezer for music and The Iconic for impulse clothes shopping.
It has a snap quad-core 1.3GHz processor, which is impressive at this price, and is capable of downloads up to 42Mbps on the Boost Mobile network, powered by Telstra.
In fact, the only element that is obviously absent is internal storage. Users get only 2GB to use for photos, music and apps, which really isn’t enough. Thankfully, micro SD memory cards are really cheap these days, so you can boost it up to 16- or 32GB for another $20 or so.
