Telstra's budget brand Boost Mobile is currently slicing $50 off its $300 365-day long-expiry plan as part of a "Back to School" sale, allowing new customers to lock in a year of mobile service for $250 upfront.
The mobile plan comes with 290GB of data, making it the equivalent of paying $20.83 per month for 24GB. That's better value than similarly priced plans on the Telstra network, including Boost's own.
For example, Boost normally charges $26 for a 28-day recharge with 7GB, and fellow Telstra MVNO Tangerine charges $25 per month for 14GB.

Boost's plan becomes a 240GB plan for $300 from the second year, but it is contract-free. As such, you don't need to stay after your first year is over. If you do choose to stay with Boost, the math works out to be the equivalent of paying $25 per month for 20GB. That's still good value when compared to other Telstra-powered providers.
Boost is the only Telstra MVNO to use the full Telstra network. This means its coverage reaches 99.7% of the population, compared to 98.8% of the population on the Telstra wholesale network used by other providers. While coverage in most areas is the same, the full Telstra network delivers coverage in some very remote parts of Australia, while the Telstra wholesale network.
Boost's long-expiry back-to-school deal runs until February 9.
