Apple is expected to reveal a new iPhone SE in early March, according to a report published by Bloomberg. The report claims that Apple will hold a product event on March 8 (likely March 9, locally), where the updated low-cost iPhone will be the star of the show.
The new iPhone SE is likely to be identical to its predecessor, retaining the 4.7-inch form factor and Touch ID fingerprint, but benefit from newer internals. It's rumoured to be powered by the same A15 processor found in the iPhone 13 family, and as such, feature 5G connectivity.
We'd expect it to still feature just one rear-facing camera, but given the 2020 iPhone SE was a bit of a frankenphone, it's hard to tell which product family Apple would pull the module from. At a minimum, we're hoping the new iPhone SE features the night mode Apple has included in mainline iPhones from the 11 and up, as lowlight imaging was a key weakness of the previous model.
Little has been said regarding pricing for the new iPhone SE, but the 2020 model launched at $749 locally, but now sells for $679 following a price cut when the iPhone 12 was announced.
Apple is also expected to use its March event to reveal a new iPad Air, also featuring 5G connectivity. Bloomberg also suggests Apple could use the event to mark the release of the iOS update that makes facial recognition work with a face mask.
