iPhone 17 Pro plans
The Phone 17 Pro is available on mobile plans from Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone. All three providers offer the choice of 24-month and 36-month repayment terms. A 24-month term means you own your iPhone 17 Pro faster, while a 36-month term brings down your monthly cost.

How much does the iPhone 17 Pro cost in Australia?
The Phone 17 Pro starts at $1,999 for a 256GB model, which is the same price as what you'd pay for a 256GB iPhone 16 Pro at launch in 2024. There's no option to pick a cheaper 128GB model this year. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is $50 more expensive this year, starting at $2,199.
Prices have increased a little for higher storage variants. You're looking at $50 more for a 512GB iPhone 17 Pro or $100 more for a 512GB iPhone 17 Pro Max. The 1TB Pro Max had an even steeper hike, costing $150 more than what you'd pay last year. There's also an all-new 2TB iPhone 17 Pro Max, priced at $3,799.

*iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max were discontinued in September 2026. While the iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, and iPhone Air got price increases when the iPhone 18 Pro launched, this wasn't the case for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. As such, we're still listing their launch pricing here. You should be able to find them cheaper, however.

iPhone 17 Pro features

iPhone 17 Pro design
The back of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max is the most significant redesign Apple has implemented since the iPhone X, with the pair of devices featuring a much larger camera "plateau" and a mix of glass and aluminium.
The majority of the phone is built from aluminium rather than titanium, like recent models, while a Ceramic Shield glass panel still enables wireless charging. When combined with a new vapour chamber, Apple says the aluminium unibody allows for better heat management, which in turn enables higher sustained performance.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max both have the same display size as last year's models, measuring in at 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch, respectively. They do have a new anti-reflective coating similar to that on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, however, and feature Ceramic Shield 2 protection. Apple says Ceramic Shield 2 is three times more scratch-resistant than the previous version.
iPhone 17 Pro camera
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max now have three 48MP cameras: a 48MP primary lens, 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a new 48MP telephoto lens with 8x optical zoom. The new telephoto lens replaces the 5x zoom lens from last year's models.
As with the standard iPhone 17 and the iPhone Air, the new Pros now have an 18MP selfie camera, up from 12MP in previous years. Dubbed the "Center Stage" camera, this is backed by an unusual square sensor. This enables landscape selfie photos while still holding the phone vertically, and face tracking when making video calls.
iPhone 17 Pro battery
Both new Pro models have a larger battery when compared to their equivalent 2024 models. The 6.3-inch iPhone 17 Pro offers up to 31 hours of video playback per charge, up from 27 on the iPhone 16 Pro. The 6.9-inch iPhone 17 Pro Max promises up to 37 hours of video playback, up from 33 in the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
iPhone 17 Pro processor
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are powered by an A19 Pro chipset with six GPU cores. Thanks to its new thermal design and new chipset, Apple say the iPhone 17 Pro family can offer up to 40% better sustained performance than the iPhone 16 Pro.
iPhone 17 Pro eSIM
US iPhone models haven't had a physical SIM since the iPhone 14, and relied on eSIM. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max still have a physical SIM card on top of eSIM, however.
eSIM (an electronic SIM or embedded SIM) is a rewritable SIM card that’s built directly into the phone. It never leaves your phone. Instead, you simply download a "software SIM" from your provider of choice.
iPhone 17 Pro 5G
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max naturally have 5G connectivity. WhistleOut's coverage checker tool has 5G coverage maps, making it easy to see whether you can get 5G. All you need to do is pop in your address when searching for a new phone plan. After you've done so and hit Search, you can jump straight to the coverage map by tapping See Coverage Map and then tapping Click To Activate Interactive Map.
This map will show you what kind of coverage you have in your area. 5G coverage is highlighted using the darkest shade of purple, but unticking 4G can help make it clearer. The drop-down menu lets you choose between telcos.
Coverage maps are only approximate, only show outdoor coverage, and may be impacted by local conditions such as buildings.

iPhone 17 Pro plan providers
Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone are all ranging the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Here's a breakdown of the major benefits you can expect each provider to offer.
Telstra iPhone 17 Pro plans
Telstra iPhone plans are often the priciest on the Australian market, but they do come with a host of perks.
Telstra lets you pay your iPhone off over 12, 24, or 36 months, and all plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your cap, your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is still fast enough to stream video in SD. But speeds may be slower during peak times.
Telstra still has Australia's largest mobile network, with 99.7% population coverage for its 4G. Its 5G network now covers 95% of the population.
In addition, Telstra has a partnership with Starlink operator SpaceX, allowing you to send text messages with satellite when mobile coverage is unavailable. A clear view of the sky is needed for this.
Telstra is the only telco in Australia to still have a rewards program. As a customer, you earn points for every dollar spent with Telstra, which can then be redeemed for discounts on new tech.
Optus iPhone 17 Pro plans
Optus iPhone plans come with solid data inclusions.
Higher-end Optus plans also come with unlimited international calls to selected destinations included with the plan.
All Optus plans are contract-free, and devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months.
In addition, all Optus postpaid plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your allowance, you'll be slowed to 1.5Mbps rather than being billed $10 per gigabyte.
If you're an Optus mobile customer, you can save $15 per month on an NBN or 5G internet plan if you add one to the same account. This discount only lasts for 12 months, however.
Optus' 4G network covers 98.5% of the population.
Vodafone iPhone 17 Pro plans
Vodafone iPhone plans may not come with the kinds of freebies and perks you can get from Optus or Telstra, but they have bonuses when it comes to bundling.
If you have a Vodafone mobile plan, you can get most of the telco's internet plans - NBN, 5G home internet, and 4G home internet - at a discounted rate.
Vodafone customers also save 5% on their total mobile bill for each postpaid mobile plan on their account after the first. This discount maxes out at 20% and doesn't include handset repayments.
Vodafone postpaid plans are all free from excess data charges. When you go over your plan allowance, you'll be capped at 2Mbps.
You'll also get access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming, which is still easily the best way to travel with your Australian phone number.
Thanks to a recent network sharing agreement with Optus, Vodafone's network coverage is now 98.4% of the population. That's only 0.1% lower than Optus itself. Vodafone does still have Australia's smallest 5G network, however.
How to choose the best iPhone 17 Pro plan for you
There are a few key factors to keep in mind when choosing your iPhone 17 Pro plan:
- Answering "how much mobile data do I use" can help you avoid overspending. Don't pay for more data than you need
- Decide whether you want to pay off your phone shorter on a 24-month plan or get a smaller bill over a longer period of time on a 36-month plan
- If you're a frequent overseas traveller, consider any international roaming inclusions
- You may also want to make international phone calls so check if the destinations you may be calling are included in your plan
