Netgear’s new Nighthawk 5G M7 portable hotspot has arrived on Australian shores.
Priced at $799 locally, this nimble piece of networking gear comes with support for 5G-enabled speeds of up to 3.6Gbps with up to 10 hours of battery life. If you’ve dabbled with any of Netgear's other 5G portable hotspots, you’ll be right at home here. Simply stick a data SIM from your mobile broadband provider of choice inside the hardware here, and you’ll be able to share that connection with up to 32 nearby WiFi-enabled devices, as well as one connected via USB Type-C.
According to Netgear’s VP of mobile, Greame McLindin, the M7 is designed to meet the needs of users who want simple, encrypted, and reliable internet access anywhere.
The most noteworthy inclusion in that regard – and the biggest thing separating the M7 from its predecessors – is the addition of an eSIM marketplace. This feature comes built into the new Nighthawk iOS and Android app and allows for easy integration with travel eSIM plans that offer coverage in more than 140 destinations. These plans range in price and data inclusions, from as little as 3GB to as much as 20GB.
"By integrating an eSIM Marketplace, we are not just launching a hotspot; we're delivering a complete connectivity solution that empowers users to connect with confidence and ease. This is the easiest way to get your hotspot online, either before you leave on your trip or when you arrive," McLindin said.
While there are plenty of travel eSIM retailers around, it appears Netgear's own eSIM Marketplace will be the only way to add an eSIM to the Nighthawk M7.
