Virgin Mobile: get up to 20GB bonus data on new plans

Okay: we’re not really sure what avocado has to do with bonus data – other than appealing to the supposed ‘urban millennial’ market that makes up much of Virgin’s customer base. But what we do know is a good deal.

So if you needed a little extra incentive to jump to Virgin Mobile’s ‘smashing’ postpaid plans, the company has announced a limited-time promo for new or upgrading customers hungry for extra data.

Sign up to a selected phone or SIM-only plan between now and October 11, and you can score up to 20GB of bonus data for your first month of service. Your once-off 'Data Gift' will vary between plans, but here’s what you can claim with each included postpaid option:

24-Month Postpaid Phone Plans

$70 Plan: 15GB of bonus data

$80 Plan: 15GB of bonus data

$100 Plan: 20GB of bonus data

$30 Plan: 10GB of bonus data

$35 Plan: 10GB of bonus data

$40 Plan: 10GB of bonus data

$50 Plan: 10GB of bonus data

$60 Plan: 10GB of bonus data

All selected plans include unlimited standard national calls, texts and MMS, plus data-free music streaming from partnering providers including Spotify. Some plans also feature unlimited international calling to seven popular destinations, including New Zealand, the USA, and the UK.

How to claim your bonus data

To claim your Data Gift, you’ll need to sign up for one of the above plans before the October cut-off. Once your service is activated, Virgin Mobile will send you an SMS confirming your plan is live and your bonus data has been applied.

While your extra data is only applied for the first month on your new or upgraded plan, you can roll over any unused gigabytes to the following month, thanks to Virgin’s FairData feature. But if you haven’t used it all by the end of your second month, you’ll lose any remaining bonus data.

The promotion is available on top of the existing bonus data currently available on selected phone and SIM plans. Customers are also free to share any spare bonus data with other subscribers via Virgin Mobile’s Data Gifting option.
