Vodafone has gone data mad and is tripling allowances on its top two plans. $80 per month gets you 90GB or 96GB, while $100 gets you a massive 150GB. Both plans have unlimited talk and text. On the $80 plan, you can add an extra 6GB or 3000 international minutes. On the $100 plan, 3000 international minutes are included out of the box.
To take advantage of these, you'll need to sign up with Vodafone before March 6, and grab a new phone.
Since Vodafone separates plan payments from handset payments, you'll need to factor in the cost of a new phone on top of the price of your plan. If you're after a 64GB iPhone X, for example, you'll need to pay somewhere between $43.86 to $131.58 extra per month, depending on your payment term. Vodafone lets you pay off your phone over 12, 24, or 36 months.
While 150GB of mobile data might be tempting, it is worth asking yourself if you'd use it before taking the plunge. For example, Netflix's mobile app uses 250MB per hour when set to auto. With a 150GB plan, you could watch approximately 600 hours of Netflix before you'd run out of data, which is literally 25 full days.
The latest ABS Internet Activity Survey suggested the average Australian is still only using 2.2GB of mobile data per month, and while this is on the rise, a 150GB allowance could end up being a case of paying for something you're not using.
Of course, if you're relying on your mobile phone as a back-up internet connection or you're regularly tethering on the go, Vodafone's top end plans could be exactly what you're after.
If you are after a high inclusion plan, Optus and Telstra are the other providers with big data offers. Optus has a 100GB for $120 per month, and a 200GB plan for $149 per month. Most phones are available with no extra handset repayment fee on these plans. Telstra has a 120GB plan for $199 per month; every phone Telstra offers is available with no extra repayment fees on this plan.
