Telstra has increased the prepaid recharge credit of its Top-Up financial assistance program and broadened the criteria for eligibility.
The assistance program was originally intended for people experiencing domestic and family violence, homelessness, or natural disasters, but has been expanded to include those struggling with financial hardship.
Successful applicants get six months of prepaid mobile credit through Telstra to the value of $180 (up from $160 last year), including 70GB of data for use across that period.
The telco reports more than 18,000 people made use of the service last year, but about $3 million of prepaid assistance ultimately went unclaimed. This year, Telstra is encouraging more people to sign up, offering a total of 30,000 Top-Ups, totalling $5.4 million in available credit.
“Everyone should have the opportunity to stay connected without compromise, and we want to do more to help make it easier,” said Teresa Corbin, Telstra Chief Customer Advocate via the company’s blog.
