Swiss watch manufacturer Tag Heuer overnight unveiled a new luxury Android Wear smartwatch, the Connected Modular 45. As the name might suggest, a modular design is one the Connected Modular 45's key selling points: straps, lugs, the buckle, and even the watch module itself can all be interchanged.
While Tag has 56 different combinations available through its website, it has yet to confirm the pricing of individual modules. Notably, Tag is also planning to offer a mechanical watch module, which will ostensibly allow the Connected Modular 45 to go between smartwatch and "regular" watch. Pricing for the mechanical watch module hasn't been confirmed either, but we're guessing it won't be cheap.
In terms of specifications, the Connected Modular 45 boasts a 400x400 pixel 1.39-inch display covered in sapphire glass, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, an Intel Atom Z34XX processor, and a 410mAh battery said to last as long as 25 hours. GPS, NFC for Android Pay, and swim-proofing are other notable features.
The Connected Modular 45 runs Android Wear 2 and is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
Tag is selling the Connected Modular 45 through its Australian online store. 56 configurations available to order, starting at $2,300 for a basic model with a rubber band, moving up to around $4,350 for models with a ceramic strap, and costing as much as $9,500 for high-end models with details such as diamond-encrusted bezels.
