Samsung Pay - Samsung's take on a mobile-driven contactless payment solution - is one step closer to becoming a true digital wallet with support for loyalty cards.
In Australia, Samsung has 18 partners that it's working with to develop tailored loyalty solutions. These include Amcal Pharmacy, Chatime, Chemmart, Crabtree & Evelyn, Gellatissimo, Guardian Pharmacy, Lincraft, Millers, Oporto, Red Rooster, Strandbags, Toys R Us, Dymocks, Amart Sports, Autograph, Sanity, RACQ, and Free2go RACQ.
Outside of these, Australians can add the majority of loyalty cards they've got floating around in their wallets. Rather than relying NFC or Magnetic Strip Transmission for these, users will just see the card's barcode on their screen, which the merchant can then scan.
"The launch of the Samsung Pay loyalty feature is an important development for the mobile payments industry, bringing Australians one step closer to a truly digital wallet with their Galaxy smartphones," said Samsung Australia's Head of Mobile Commerce and New Business Brett Inman.
"At the heart of the Samsung Pay loyalty feature is great convenience and value. This technology will help Australians get the most out of loyalty programs at their favourite stores and it is an exciting development for people who use their smartphone as the central device to organize and enjoy their lives."
Samsung Pay works with the following Samsung smartphones: Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S7, and Galaxy S7 Edge.
