Samsung's latest smartwatch, the Gear S3, is now available for pre-order ahead of an Australian release date on November 18.
The Gear S3 will be available in two different models, Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic. The Frontier's matte black finish is meant to evoke more of a rugged outdoor look, while the polished stainless steel Classic takes its inspiration from more traditional luxury timepieces. The Frontier ships with an "active silicon" watch band, while the Classic is bundled with a leather strap. Both are compatible with any 22mm band.
While the two watches have slight aesthetic variations, both share the same core functionality. The headline feature this year is battery life said to offer up to four days of usage per charge. This is notable, as most smartwatches currently on the market struggle to make it to even two days.
Other key functionality includes a rotating bezel for navigation, GPS for run tracking and navigations, IP68 water-resistance, and a scratch resistant Gorilla Glass SR+ screen.
The two Gear S3 variants feature a 1.3-inch display and are a 12.9mm thick, which makes them quite a bit chunkier than last year's Gear S2 (which measured in at 11.4mm). Of course, big watches are in vogue right now, so whatever floats your boat.
Both the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic are priced at $599. Customers who pre-order either Gear S3 from either Samsung or Harvey Norman will receive a bonus red "active silicon" watch band.
