Just weeks after announcing a smartphone with three rear-facing cameras, Samsung has one upped itself. It's latest midrange handset - the Galaxy A9 - has four cameras on the back. At this rate, we'll end up with a ten camera smartphone before the end of next year.
The Galaxy A9's four camera setup consists of an ultra-wide angle lens, a telephoto zoom lens, a primary lens, an extra lens for sensing depth. Their specs are as follows:
- Ultra-wide: 8MP, f/2.4, to help fit more in a single frame without stepping back
- Telephoto: 10MP, f/2.4, equivalent to two times optical zoom
- Primary: 24MP, f/1.7, pretty much your standard smartphone camera for day to day use
- Depth: 5MP, f/2.2, used to simulate DSLR-like bokeh (the tasteful blurred background behind your subject)
In addition to a fairly standard black glass finish on the back, the Galaxy A9 will be available in two gradient finishes: blue-to-cyan, and pink-to-rose-gold.
Four cameras and gradient finishes aside, the Galaxy A9 is a fairly standard midrange phone. Key specifications include a 6.3-inch 1080+ display, a Snapdragon 660 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, and a 3,800mAh battery. It will ship with Android Oreo rather the newly released Pie. The Galaxy A9 isn't water-resistant.
Local pricing and availability for the Galaxy A9 have yet to be confirmed.
