
Australia has made it to the top 10 overall position in Opensignal's latest Global Network Excellence Index.
The leading insights company introduced the index in 2025 as a way to rank mobile markets globally by infrastructure readiness, user experience and capacity to support future growth.
For quarter four of 2025, Australia ranked 10th globally, up from 17th in the same quarter of 2024. Additionally, Australia placed 5th 4G/5G Network Availability, 18th for Excellent Consistent Quality and 22nd for Download Speed.

Australia's Download Speed scores improved greatly from 26 (4G) and 41 (5G), or an average of 33.5 to 22nd.
As a value, Australia's average Download Speed came in at 126.9Mbps, while world leader South Korea measured in at 308.3Mbps. South Korea was followed by Iceland (212.9Mbps), Denmark (185.1Mbps), Qatar (181Mbps) and Norway (166.4Mbps).
Opensignal tracks performance via its registered users across the globe to build the index. In Australia, the company tracks the performance of mobile network operators Telstra, Optus and Vodafone. It documents its findings twice yearly in its Mobile Network Experience report. At the end of 2025, Optus came out on top for 5G Download Speeds for the fourth year in a row.
