Moto G9 Play

Motorola today announced another new handset, the Moto G9 Play for just $299 to be released October 7.

This affordable handset comes equipped with the usual tri-camera set up we’ve grown to expect from Android devices, a substantial battery capacity, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor, and even a good old fashioned headphone jack.

Motorola is no stranger to the mid-tier and affordable phone category, releasing a handful this year alone.

“What’s most important for Australians is to have a phone that can fulfil their day-to-day needs and performs well across the board, with excellent specs and features, without paying too much. This is what Motorola’s moto g family is all about: To deliver what matters most to consumers,” said Motorola APAC General Manager of Sales Danny Adamopoulos.

"Motorola understands the mid-tier segment like nobody else. Each year, we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in this price range. With the Moto G9 Play, we have taken the mobile experience to the next level by combining everything consumers want in one product."

The camera set up is made of a 48MP primary lens, 2MP depth sensor, and 2MP macro lens, which combined with the computational photography software looks to be able to shoot in a range of styles. However it’s impossible to base the performance of the camera off specs alone - we’ve seen disappointing camera results in some of the other Motorola handsets we’ve reviewed this year but the G9 play may break this mold.

Sporting a 5,000mAh battery, the handset is expected to last for two days between charges which is comparable to other Motorola devices currently on the market. Actual charge time will depend on how the phone is being used, but in the Moto G8 Power Lite we found that the same battery capacity yielded up to 72 hours of use.

Other key specifications 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and an 8MP selfie camera.

The handset will be available to buy outright from JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Officeworks, Big W, Mobileciti and the Motorola online store.
