Less than six months after announcing the Moto G5 family, Motorola has iterated on its popular budget smartphones with two new devices: the Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus. While neither new device is overly different from its earlier iteration, there are a couple of key changes.
The Moto G5S Plus is a little larger than the G5 Plus, rocking a 5.5-inch display. It also touts a second rear-facing camera, which has allowed Motorola to simulate DSLR-like bokeh. Both rear-facing cameras are 13MP.
The Moto G5S is also a little larger than the G5, going up from 5-inches to 5.2-inches. The camera is now 16MP, and the body is now all an all-metal unibody body. This does however mean the battery is no longer removable.
Key specifications for the Moto G5S Plus include a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB of RAM, up to 64GB of expandable storage, and a 3,000mAh battery.
Key specifics for the Moto G5S include a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 430 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, and a 3,000mAh battery.
Both phones will ship with Android 7.1.1.
We’re still waiting for confirmation of whether the G5S or G5S Plus will see an Australian release, but international availability kicks off from this month. The Moto G5S will retail for £180 (approximately $300), while the Moto G5S Plus is slightly pricier at £220 (approximately $365). For comparison, the Moto G5 and G5 Plus launched here priced at $299 and $399 respectively.
