LG today unveiled the LG G6, its latest flagship smartphone. Headlining features including an extra tall display with a 18:9 aspect ratio, an almost bezel-less build, and water-resistance. Notably, the G6 abandons the modular design LG introduced last year with the G5, and no longer has a removable battery.
Dubbed "FullVision", the G6's 5.7-inch Quad HD+ screen runs at a resolution of 2880x1440 pixels. The 18:9 aspect ratio is notable as it’s the same as Univisium, a new standard attempting to unify the aspect ratio used by the film industry. While the phone's screen is normally the kind of display you'd expect to find in a phablet, the G6 is smaller than comparable phones thanks to the minimal bezel; LG says you can still hold and use the G6 in one hand. In a brief hands on, we found it to be slightly larger than the 4.7-inch iPhone 7.
In addition, the G6 supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10 HDR standards, which facilitate a wider range of colours and luminosities. As such, the G6 will be able to play back HDR-encoded content through services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.
G6 buyers will get access to the G6 Game Collection, which includes USD$200 worth of games (and in-app purchases) that have been optimised for the phone's FullVision display.

The G6 also touts two-rear facing cameras: one "standard" 13MP shooter, one wide-angle 13MP camera with a 125-degree lens. The rear-facing cameras both sit flush with phone's body. In addition, the G6 has a 5MP front-facing camera with a 100-degree field of view, which LG says removes the need for a selfie-stick.
Other key specifications include a Snapdragon 821 processor, IP68 water-resistance, a rear-facing fingerprint reader, 4GB of RAM, a minimum of 32GB of expandable storage, a 3,300mAh battery, and Android Nougat. Notably, the G6 is the first non-Pixel phone to ship with Google Assistant, Google's new replacement for Google Now.

The G6 will launch in black, white and platinum. We're still waiting for LG Australia to confirm local pricing and availability. Telstra will be the exclusive telco partner for the LG G6 in Australia.
Disappointingly, LG did not license Far East Movement's classic banger "Like a G6" for the phone's launch.
