Apple will hold its next major product event at 3am on September 10 (AEST), and the iPhone 16 is almost certainly on the cards. In addition, we're expecting new Apple Watches and a new pair of entry-level AirPods.
There are a few changes set for this year's iPhone family. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are set to get the action button from last year's Pros, a faster processor, and a camera configuration that allows for spatial video. Conversely, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are tipped to get the faster processor, larger screens, and improved cameras.
An emphasis on Artificial Intelligence features wouldn't be surprising either. Apple spent a large part of its developer's conference talking about Apple Intelligence, and the iPhone 16 family will ostensibly be the flagship phones of the technology.
Based on past years, we're expecting pre-orders to start on September 13, which would suggest a September 20 release date.
Even if you're not interested in buying an iPhone 16, you should still hold off on buying a new iPhone (unless you spot a particularly good deal). The launch of a new handset means current models will get cheaper. Last year, Apple cut the price of the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone 13 on the same day it announced the iPhone 15 family.
This year, we're expecting Apple to slash prices on the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 14. The iPhone 13, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max are all likely to be discontinued. If this is the case, they won't get official price cuts, but we'll almost certainly see some solid deals as retailers try and get through the last of their stock.
