The $1,829 256GB iPhone X might be Australia's most expensive smartphone, but it won't be for long: Huawei's latest collaboration with Porsche Design - the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 10 - will set you back a redonkulous $1,899 when it launches on December 4. Smartphones got expensive this year, hey?
While the iPhone X is intended as "mainstream" smartphone, the Porsche Design Mate 10 is a limited run special edition that's essentially a super-premium version of the Mate 10 Pro (which will go on sale on the same day). In terms of aesthetic, the main differences are a "race track stripe" design and "diamond black" glass with a ceramic texture. Hardware is also a touch different, with RAM and storage getting a boost to 6GB and 256GB respectively.
Your $1,899 will also get you a couple of goodies inside the box, including a leather case, exclusive accessories, and "VIP member services". Huawei has yet to confirm what these last two will entail locally, but internationally, bundled accessories include premium headphones and two chargers.
Other key specifications for the Mate 10 Pro include a 18:9 6-inch 1080p screen, a Huawei-made Kirin 970 processor, IP67 water-resistance, a 4000mAH battery, and a Leica co-engineered dual rear-facing camera setup made up of a 12MP primary camera and a 20MP secondary monochrome camera used to capture extra detail and simulate DSLR-like bokeh.
Huawei has yet to confirm where you'll be about to buy the Porsche Design Mate 10 from.
If $1899 is too much for you, the base Mate 10 model starts at a much more reasonable $899 and is available for pre-order from Vodafone now.
