For the first time, Huawei will launch a flagship smartphone with all of the major Australian carriers.
The Huawei P9 will soon be available on 24 month phone plans with Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Virgin Mobile, signifying a major shift in the way the mobile market is embracing the Chinese phone maker.
There are only a few smartphones available now on plans from all four of the majors, putting the Huawei P9 in the same league as the iPhone, Samsung’s flagships and the HTC 10.
The P9 looks like it deserves the attention, with a mix of the best new hardware tech available, and an impressive sounding dual-lens Leica camera sporting a 12-megapixel image sensor.
Huawei estimates that processing performance is up a full 100 percent compared with last year’s P8, and the handset ships with 32GB of onboard storage.
The telcos are yet to announce pricing, with a July 5 release a few week off, but Huawei has confirmed that the handset with retail for $799. Besides the telcos, the P9 will be in JB HiFi and Harvey Norman, plus Huawei’s shopping centre kiosks.
