Huawei is auctioning off a limited-edition Mate 9 smartphone co-created with Porsche Design to support cancer research. The device is one of one of the only three Porsche Design Mate 9 smartphones available in Australia, and all proceeds from the auction will be donated to Tour De Cure, a charity that contributes to cancer research, support, and prevention projects.
At time of writing, the current bid is sitting at $1,000. Internationally, the Porsche Design Mate 9 retails for €1395 (approximately $1955). The auction ends at 12pm on Friday. You can check it out here.
In addition to a graphite finish and a customised user interface, the Porsche Design Mate 9 is slightly beefier than the regular variant sold in Australia. Improved specifications include a Quad HD display, 256GB of expandable storage, and 6GB of RAM. Oddly, the Porsche-inspired model has a home button / fingerprint reader combo and a headphone jack on the bottom, while the regular Mate 9 has a rear-facing fingerprint reader, no home button, and a headphone jack on the top.
Otherwise, the Porsche Design Mate 9 features the same internals you'll find in the standard model: a Kirin 960 octa-core processor, dual rear-facing camera co-engineered with Leica, and 4,000mAh battery said to last up to two days.
