Vodafone has dropped to price of the Huawei P10 and Huawei Mate 9 down to $699. Both smartphones are 2017 flagship devices, and launched at $899 and $999 respectively, making the cut a fairly significant discount for reasonably new handsets.
The discount follows the launch of Vodafone's overhauled approach to phone plans. Rather than signing a two-year contract, "the plan" part of your component is contract-free and you pay out the outright cost of your device over 12, 24, or 36 months (interest free).
You're able to freely change your plan on a month-to-month basis, and if you want to leave, you just need to pay out the remainder of your phone's outright cost.
At $699, here's what Huawei P10 and Mate 9 repayments would look like over one, two, and three years:
- 12 months: $58.25 per month
- 24 months: $29.12 per month
- 36 months: $19.41 per month
You then bolt that onto one of the following plans:
While Vodafone's new approach to phone contracts doesn't necessarily save you money, it certainly helps with transparency and knowing exactly how much you're paying for the phone, rather than having that cost hidden in the "plan" portion of your bill.
For example, these are what Vodafone's repayments look like for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
- 12 months: $124.91 per month
- 24 months: $62.45 per month
- 36 months: $41.63 per month
Prior to Vodafone's changes, you might have looked at taking up a $90 plan with a new phone. The P10 might have had a $0 handset repayment fee on this plan, while the Note 8 might have had a $10 repayment fee, making the actual amount you're paying for a phone a bit murkier.
If you want to know more about either device, you can read our review of the Huawei P10 here and the Huawei Mate 9 here. We thought both phones offered great value for money at their launch prices, and would comfortably say they're now even better at $699.
