Vodafone-owned provider felix mobile has cut its unlimited mobile plan price by 50% for the first six months. This brings the monthly cost down to $20 from $40. That's a saving of $120 over those six months before the plan reverts to the full cost.
Its other mobile plans, with 25GB and 50GB data allowances, are also 50% off, but only for the first three months.
Here's a look at felix's mobile plans:
The unlimited data plan offer is available until March 15. The deals for the 25GB and 50GB plans are available until withdrawn.
felix's unlimited data plan is the only truly unlimited plan of its kind available in Australia. Instead of a data allowance, you can use as much data as you like in exchange for a limit on your mobile plan's download speed. In the case of felix's unlimited plan, that's a maximum download speed of 40Mbps (almost as fast as an NBN 50 plan, which caps out at 50Mbps).
Most providers that offer "unlimited data" still have a monthly data allowance, but throttle speeds down to 1-2 Mbps speeds once it's used up. That's just enough to stream music and browse the internet. Dodo throttles speeds right down to just 256Kbps, which is barely usable.
While felix's unlimited plan is truly unlimited, its maximum speed is slower than what most mobile providers in the market offer on their regular plans. That's usually maximum download speeds of at least 100Mbps, similar to an NBN 100 plan.
felix's 25GB and 50GB plans have their speeds capped to 150Mbps. Once you use up your monthly data allowance, the speeds are throttled to 1.5Mbps.
