Dodo has a range of new deals for new customers on its SIM-only mobile plans this month, including double data on its 15GB plan.
New customers who sign up will get 30GB of data for the first three months for $23 per month.
Dodo is also offering 50% off for the first four months on its 30GB, 40GB and 60GB plans.
Here's a look at Dodo's range of mobile plans:
These offers are available until July 31.
Dodo's mobile plans operate over the Optus network. They come with data banking (500GB for its 15GB plan and unlimited data banking on the rest) and no excess data charges. This means that if you do run out of data, rather than having to pay more Dodo will instead throttle your speeds to 256Kbps.
However, 256Kbps is very slow, you might be able to do some basic browsing and stream music, but streaming video might be out of reach if you run out of data. Providers such as Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Belong and felix all have at least 1Mbps minimum if you're after an unlimited data plan.
While these deals sound great, the mobile plan space is competitive, and there's no shortage of options.
Mobile plans on the Optus or Vodafone network tend to be cheaper than those on the Telstra network which covers 99.7% of Australians. Since the network-sharing deal took effect, Vodafone's coverage has increased to 98.4% of the population just behind Optus' 98.5%.
Here's a look at Optus and Vodafone network plans with at least 30GB of data for less than $30 per month:
So how does Dodo's deal compare? There are better options. Moose Mobile's plan comes with 40GB of data (27GB plus 13GB of bonus data) for $12.40 for the first six months. Its plans also use the Optus network and come with data banking.
Even after Moose Mobile's plan reverts to its normal inclusions for $24.80 per month ongoing, it works out to be the best value plan in the long run.
Compared to Dodo's 15GB plan you'll save $40.80 over the course of 12 months and have more data.
