For most of its life, Amaysim has predominantly been a SIM-only business, but that's changing with the launch of Samsung's Galaxy S8. While the wallet friendly telco isn't about to offer 24-month contracts with monthly handset repayment fees anytime soon, Amaysim will sell you an unlocked Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ at retail price.
To sweeten the deal, anyone who buys a S8 through Amaysim will get three free recharges of any of the telco's "Unlimited" plans. If you're after Amaysim's priciest plan, that's an extra $150 worth of value. And of course, since Amaysim's plans are month-to-month, you can change recharge if your data requirements go up or down.
Customers pre-ordering will also get a bonus Gear VR headset, and have their orders ship ahead of the official launch on April 28.
"What so often happens with big releases like this is that in their rush to get their hands on the phone, people sign on for a two-year contract which, down the line, may no longer meet their data needs," said Amaysim Head of Commercial, Jennifer Snell.
"We’re here to say it doesn’t need to be that way anymore – we're making it amazingly simple for Aussies to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+, and still have the choice of the best SIM-only plans on the market."
An Amaysim spokesperson told WhistleOut that telco currently has no specific plans to offer similar deals for other phones, but "will be monitoring closely how successful this activity is to inform whether it's something worth looking at again in the future".
