Alcatel has partnered with internet protection service Family Zone to launch a kid-friendly smartphone embedded with cyber safety tools. Dubbed the FZ One, the handset comes with a one year Family Zone subscription, which allows parents to filter adult content, restrict the use of social media, and manage screen time on their child's device.
Parents are able to manage their child's FZ One via a companion app on their own phones. In addition, Alcatel says the Family Zone app installed on the FZ One is "tamper-proof", and that there's no way for kids to uninstall or bypass its safety features.
After your first 12-months with the FZ One are up, you'll have to pay $5.95 per month to continue using the safety feature.
Key specifications for the FZ One include a 5.5-inch 720p+ display, a MediaTek MT6739 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, a 13MP rear-facing camera, and a 3,000mAh battery. It runs Android Oreo.
The FZ ONE can be purchased directly through Family Zone's website for $199 with free shipping. Family Zone will also throw in a bonus $20 Woolworths Mobile prepaid SIM.
