Vivo today announced local availability for the Vivo X60 Pro, its latest flagship phone. While the device is fairly conventional for a high-end handset, it stands out thanks to gimbal stabilisation on its primary camera.
For those not familiar with the term, a gimbal ostensibly suspends the camera lens on a double-ball mount to help counterbalance hand movements. Not only does Vivo say this will lead to smoother, shake-free video, it should help capture sharper photos.
The Vivo X60 Pro also marks the start of a partnership with lens manufacturer Zeiss. It’s not clear exactly how involved Zeiss was in the creation of the Vivo X60 Pro camera system, but as part of the collaboration, users will have access bokeh effects similar to what you’d get from the lens manufacturer’s glass.
Other key specifications for the Vivo X60 Pro includes a 6.56-inch 1080p+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 870 5G processor, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of non-expandable storage, and a 4,200mAh battery. The rear-facing camera configuration is made up of a 48MP primary lens (with the aforementioned gimbal stabilisation), a 13MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and 13MP ultra-wide lens. On the front, there’s a 32MP selfie camera.
The Vivo X60 Pro is available for pre-order from June 3 ahead of a June 17 release date. It will set you back $1,099 outright. Anyone who pre-orders through JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Big W, The Good Guys, or Mobileciti will receive a bonus Hartman Kardon Citation One MKII smart speaker valued at $299.
For those not familiar with the brand, Vivo is a sister company to OPPO, Realme and OnePlus. The four are all owned by the same parent company, BBK Electronics. Despite shared ownership, the companies tend to operate independently, although share some supply chain efficiencies.
