Telstra really wants you to pre-order the brand new Samsung Galaxy Note9 on one of their plans. And to sweeten the deal, they're giving away a free Samsung Tab A 8.0 (2017) valued at $456 with every order.
The Samsung Galaxy Note9 comes with a bluetooth enabled S Pen, an intelligent camera and up to 1TB of expandable storage. The Tab A 8.0, meanwhile, offers bright and immersive display, 16GB of built-in storage, 14 hours of battery life and 4G connectivity.
As well as the free tablet offer, Telstra is also participating in the official Samsung Note9 promotion. If you pre-order the Note9 before midnight on August 23, you can get the 512GB device, which retails at a whopping $1,799, for the price of the 128GB device – $1,499. That's a saving of $300. Add that to the free tablet and that's $756 worth of swag. Not too shabby, Telstra.
But while Telstra is the only vendor giving away free tablets (as far as we know) it's not the only retailer offering the storage upgrade. You can get the same offer from the Samsung retail and online stores, Vodafone, Optus, JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Bing Lee, the Good Guys and the Qantas Q Store.
So what are Telstra's Galaxy Note9 plans?
Telstra Galaxy Note9 plans will start at $122 per month with 3GB of data. If you jump up to $134 per month with 30GB of data the plans also come with one free 24-month Foxtel Now starter pack. And if you jump up again to $139 per month plans come with 60GB of full-speed data plus "peace of mind" data which is unlimited but capped at speeds of 1.5Mbps (still fast enough for everyday use and SD video streaming).
If all of that doesn't sound like enough data for you (you data fiend!) you can get an unlimited data plan from Telstra for $199 per month. The Samsung Galaxy Note9 comes free with that plan and at that price, you'd hope so.

Telstra is also offering the Samsung Galaxy Note9 on lease plans starting at $112 per month with 3GB of data. Leasing a phone from Telstra is similar to signing a 24-month contract, except you're not buying the phone and you have a built-in option to upgrade after 12 months.
Lease plans may offer some savings over the full 24-month period, however they have their drawbacks. You could potentially save more by buying your phone and selling it second-hand when you're ready to upgrade, there are hefty damage and cancellation fees and if you want to upgrade your phone after 12 months, you're locked in with Telstra.

Telstra is offering the Samsung Galaxy Note9 in Midnight Black and Ocean Blue. The free Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 may ship up to four weeks following the Note9, which will be available from Friday August 24.
Giveaway coincides with newer Samsung tablet release
While we think that a free $456 Samsung tablet with your Note9 is a pretty sweet deal, if a Samsung tablet is what you're after, it's worth noting that Samsung is about to launch two newer models.
Coming on Friday August 24, the same day as the Galaxy Note9 launch, is Samsung's new 2-in-1, the Galaxy Tab S4. This shiny new device, starting at $979 comes with PC-style functionality thanks to the integration of Samsung DeX, a 10.5" Super AMLOED display and four speakers tuned by AKG with Dolby Atmos.
If that doesn't sound like your style, Samsung will also launch the Tab A 10.5" which, starting at $449 comes with fast charging, S Pen functionality, 1 16:10 screen-to-body ratio with minimal bezel, parental controls and four speakers with Dolby Atmos.
