Samsung's new Galaxy S10+ is its most advanced phone to date, but you may not know that it will be superseded by an even more advanced model in just a few months time: the 5G-capable Galaxy S10+. This future phone will have all the excellent features available in the standard model, plus it will be compatible with super-fast new 5G networks.
Ordinarily this would be terrible news for anyone planning on buying the Galaxy S10+ at launch, but thanks to Telstra, its loyal tech lovers won't be left behind.
Telstra has announced it will offer a free upgrade to a new 5G phone to anyone who pre-orders the Samsung Galaxy S10+ before its March 8 release date. You'll get the new Galaxy S10+ immediately, and then be eligible to return it for an upgrade to a 5G Galaxy S10+ when it's released later in the first half of the year.
You also get a free pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds wireless headphones when you pre-order, valued at $249.
Telstra is ranging all of the new handsets in the Galaxy S family, but you'll need to choose the Galaxy S10+ model to snag the 5G handset upgrade offer. If we look at the Telstra plans available, the standout deal is the Galaxy S10+ on a Telstra $129 Mobile Lease Plan with a huge 160GB of data to use each month.
And here's a few more Telstra Galaxy S10+ plans to consider:
Super Samsung
As we’ve come to expect from Samsung, the new Galaxy S10+ is packed with exciting new features. Most notably is a 6.4-inch curved AMOLED display that covers the entire front-side of the phone. To make this possible, Samsung has cut two small holes out of the panel to make room for the front facing cameras.
Speaking of cameras, the Galaxy S10+ has five of them: two on the front and three on the back. This may sound like a few too many cameras, but you'll soon find it’s just enough when you see the photos the phone takes. The extra lenses let you get closer to the action with sharp optical zoom, and the AI in the camera uses the extra sensors to enhance the depth in your photos by combining multiple images together.
Other cool new features include an invisible sonic fingerprint scanner positioned below the screen, and a PowerShare mode that converts the Galaxy S10+ into a wireless charger and lets you charge other devices, like your free Galaxy Buds headphones, or your friend's phone when they run low on battery.
All of Samsung's Galaxy S smartphone range, include the Galaxy S10+, will be available in stores and online from March 8. But remember, you need to pre-order the phone through Telstra to get the 5G handset upgrade.

The Need for Speed
While there's no fixed date for the launch of the 5G-ready Galaxy S10+, indications from Telstra's 5G network rollout suggest we don't have long to wait. Telstra has already rolled out over 200 5G mobile sites across Australia, and it is only just beginning.
In network tests so far, the new Telstra network has impressed with speeds up to 1Gbps on an older Samsung Galaxy S9. For comparison, this is ten-times faster than the fastest NBN connection you can get at home.
Speeds like this promise super-charged downloads, and nearly zero video buffering when accessing your favourite video streaming services. And, with the 160GB included in the Telstra $129 Lease plan mentioned above, you'll have plenty of data to share with other devices like your TV at home and your laptop in your office.
Telstra has a range of 5G devices planned for release this year, included new phones from Samsung, LG and Oppo, and a powerful home wireless broadband device made by HTC.
