TPG has revealed four new mobile plans dubbed ‘T3G’, replacing its Plenty Plan Saver option and showing renewed confidence in its position as an MVNO.
The new plans are named by size, Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large; similar to the way Telstra defines its mobile offerings. These SIM-only options from TPG are a fair bit cheaper than the plans on the Next G network, though.
Starting at $19.99 per month, a Small plan includes $500 worth of calls and text and 100MB of data per month. 2-minute calls cost $2.38 and SMS cost $0.25 per unit.
All plans include unlimited calls to other TPG mobile and any TPG home phone services.
| T3G Plan | Included Value | Included Data | Excess Data Fee |
| $19.99 | $500 | 100MB | 10c per MB |
| $24.99 | $500 | 500MB | 10c per MB |
| $30 | $500 | 1.5GB | 10c per MB |
| $40 | $650 | 2.5GB | 10c per MB |
As with previous TPG phone plans, the T3G plans operate on the Optus 3G network.
On the surface, these may not seem like the outstanding value you might expect from TPG, but they stack up pretty well -- especially in the calls column. Other telcos offer SIM-only plans for about $20 per month usually include only $200 worth of calls and text, but tend to include twice as much data.
TPG doesn't compare as well at the other end of the spectrum, where competitors Amaysim, Boost and Aldi Mobile all offer better value for about $40 per month.
