Optus brings back "Unlimited Data Weekends" for prepaid plans

Customers on Optus prepaid mobile plans worth at least $39 per 28-day recharge now get unlimited data on weekends, provided they have AutoRecharge switched on.

While a "fair go policy" still applies, no data usage between 12.01am on Saturday and 11.59pm on Sunday counts across a customer's normal data allowance, provided they're on an eligible plan. The unlimited data kicks in each customer's local time zone, rather than a unified time for all Optus customers.

Here are Optus' prepaid plans eligible for unlimited data weekends:

Unlimited data weekends are only available on Optus' 28-day expiry prepaid plans. The telco's long-expiry prepaid plans are excluded from the offer.

Unlike most other unlimited data offers in Australia, Optus customers won't receive lower speeds when using their unlimited data on a weekend. Every eligible prepaid plan has uncapped download speeds. While Optus previously limited download speeds of many of its prepaid plans to 150Mbps or 250Mbps, it has undone this change.

Optus first introduced unlimited data weekends at the end of last year as a limited-time offer, which ended in March. While the fine print says Optus may withdraw the offer down the line, there's no fixed timeframe. As such, we can assume unlimited data weekends are sticking around for a while.
