Optus today announced a new initiative that allows customers to bundled multiple streaming services on their Optus account in exchange for a discount. Dubbed SubHub, the new offering is ostensibly a portal that helps customers manage their streaming services. Instead of subscribing directly through the service itself, customers can subscribe through Optus and add them on to their monthly mobile or NBN bill.
Customers will save 5% on their total monthly streaming bill if they subscribe to at least two services through SubHub, and 10% if they subscribe to three. Any Optus customer subscribing to a service through SubHub will also get a free Optus Sport subscription, assuming it isn't already in their plan.
In theory, SubHub should also make it easier for customers to keep track of what services they're subscribing to, and potentially to toggle services on a monthly basis. Optus also says it will be offering exclusive offers to customers via SubHub.
At launch, SubHub's service offering is rather narrow: the main services you can subscribe to are Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited, Calm, and inkl. Netflix, Paramount+, Fetch TV, and BritBox are all set to come on board before the end of the year, however. While the telco is currently focusing on entertainment in the more traditional sense, it's interested in exploring gaming in the future.
Initially, customers will need to make a new account to add a service to SubHub - you can't just migrate your existing Amazon Prime account right now, for example. Optus says it's working on a solution to address this, however.
Existing Optus customers can start using SubHub from today, through either the Optus website or Optus mobile app.
