Considering an Optus Sport subscription? Here's everything you need to know about the home of the great game - soccer (sorry, football).
What is Optus Sport?

In case it wasn’t clear, Optus Sport is Optus’ sports streaming service. The platform is home to the largest football catalogue in Australia and is the easiest way to access these matches live, and on demand. It has a few extra features to make your viewing more enjoyable including:
- Spoiler protection. You can hide scores and results until you're ready to see them
- Highlights reels. Strapped for time? Catch just the highlights or opt for mini-matches (24-minute replays) and mega-minis (45-minute replays)
- News, analysis and stats. Provided by the Optus Sport team so you can really dig into the numbers. You can see detailed stats for both the Premier League and LaLiga
You can catch match highlights, read breaking news articles and access stats, and OS Fitness with a free Optus Sport account. You can think of this almost like Optus Sport's free tier. You'll need to subscribe if you want to access all of the other features including full games.
You can register Optus Sport on up to four different devices but unfortunately, you can only have one stream active at any one time. While the platform comes as an add-on to many Optus mobile and internet plans, you can sign up independently (although it's more expensive).
What's on Optus Sport?
Optus Sport, affectionately referred to as OS could almost be renamed to Optus Soccer because that is currently what you’ll get for your subscription. OS is the exclusive Australian home to:
- Premier League
- FIFA Women's World Cup 2023
- Barclay's Women's Super League
- LaLiga
- European Qualifiers
- UEFA Nations League
- UEFA EURO 2024
Optus Sport also has the rights to stream select matches of:
- J League
- K League
- DFB Pokal
- DFB Pokal Frauen
Note: Not every single match will be available on-demand. Some matches such as Premier League are only available on demand until the next round begins.
OS Fitness
Optus Sport also features a range of fitness content in the form of OS Fitness.
OS Fitness includes over 1,000 yoga, dance, cardio, core and strength workouts available to follow along at home. Workouts are devised by leading fitness providers including FIIT, Flow Athletic and Virtual Playground, SWEAT FACTOR,
Move 123 and more.
Is Optus Sport showing the UEFA Euro 2024 Championship?
Yes, you can catch all the UEFA Euro 2024 Championship football matches on Optus Sport.
The tournament is taking place between June 15 (5am AEST) and July 15 (5am AEST) and is being hosted in Germany.
Optus Sport will have supplementary programming, including match highlights and post-game commentary.
How much does Optus Sport cost?
Optus Sport subscriptions are available for $24.99 per month or $229 for an annual plan.
Many Optus customers can thankfully access the platform for much less than that.
If you're an Optus postpaid mobile customer or have any Optus home internet plan then you can save over 70% with an Optus Sport subscription for $9.99 via Optus SubHub.
You can compare those plans here:
When it comes to prepaid it's a slightly different story. Optus prepaid customers can access Optus Sport for $12 over a 28-day expiry period through an add-on. Here's a look at Optus' prepaid mobile plans:
Here are the Optus Sport plans outright if you're not an Optus customer:
Optus Sport allows you to make an account for free which gives you access to a small fraction of the platform but you'll need to pay if you want more match highlights and OS Fitness. Its subscription tiers are on a rolling, month-to-month basis so you’re free to leave at any time. If you opt for the annual pass then you will have access for the full 12 months from your subscription date, when it will be auto-renewed unless you cancel beforehand.
What internet speed do I need for Optus Sport?
If you're streaming Optus Sport at 720p Optus recommends download speeds of at least 3Mbps for seamless streaming. For 1080p HD streaming you're going to want at least 5Mbps.
How much data does Optus Sport use?
Optus doesn't release information on how much data Optus Sport uses but streaming service data usage is fairly consistent between platforms.
The amount of data used by Optus Sport will depend on which stream quality you opt for. We know a 720p stream on Kayo Sports uses approximately 2.5GB per hour. For a 1080+ HD stream Netflix uses around 3GB over the same timeframe.
Best NBN plans for Optus Sport
Streaming can be data and download-intensive, fortunately, most internet plans these days already come with unlimited data. Unsurprisingly Optus NBN plans are the best option for Optus Sport subscribers simply because they lower the cost of the subscription:
On top of that, Optus typically lands in the top five fastest providers in the ACCC's broadband performance report. You know that you’ll be getting a fast, reliable connection.
Here are the NBN 50 plans from providers included in that report.
These plans will not only be fast enough to handle multiple streams at once, but will leave you with a great buffer for households of up to four people.
