It seems like everyone these days has its own streaming service. Foxtel has Binge and Kayo Sports and now HBO Max have branched out on their own like Paramount Plus. So don't be surprised that online shopping giants are no exception.
Amazon Prime video is Amazon's very own streaming service. Here's all you need to know about its subscription costs, discounts and deals, content library and perks for being a member.

What is Amazon Prime Video?
To compete with other streaming services and sweeten the deal for its Prime subscribers, Amazon's Prime Video was launched way back in 2006.
With Prime Video you can stream thousands of films and TV shows, including some impressive original content you won't see anywhere else, like Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, The Boys, Gen V and Good Omens.
In addition to its vast library of TV series and film content, Prime Video offers some unique perks.
Prime Video members get exclusive Amazon offers and discounts across a variety of products, fast and free delivery on millions of eligible items, free international delivery on items from the Amazon Global Store, access to 100 million songs and ad-free podcast episodes via Amazon Music, access to selected books with Prime Reading, $0 food delivery fees via DoorDash plus a bonus audiobook when you take out a new Audible Premium Plus membership.
How much does Amazon Prime Video cost in Australia?
Prime Video memberships can be paid either monthly or annually. When you sign up annually you'll save around $40.88 over the year, which is works out to be just over four months free.
New Amazon Prime customers can also take up a 30-day free trial. If you take up a month-to-month membership, it's on a no-contract basis, meaning you can cancel at any time. However, if you pay upfront for the year, you won't be able to leave early or if you do, you won't be refunded the difference.
Compared to Stan and Netflix, Prime Video is pretty cheap, particularly when you consider that with your Prime Video membership, you can stream on up to three devices simultaneously and stream 4K (Ultra HD) content.
Netflix users need to be on its $28.99 per month Premium plan for 4K (Ultra HD) quality. While this allows you to stream via four devices simultaneously, you can add extra member slots for an extra $6.99 per month/with ads or $8.99 per month/without ads for those viewing outside of your household.
Stan viewers can only get 4K (Ultra HD) quality on its top-tier Premium plan priced at $22 per month, but you'll get access to four simultaneous screens.
Here's how a monthly Prime Video membership compares to other major streaming services on the Australian market:
What can I watch on Amazon Prime Video in Australia?

Prime Video's big drawcard in terms of content is Prime Video Originals. It's what separates the men from the boys, unless The Boys is what you're after — then you're in the right place!
Like Netflix Originals, these are TV shows that have been developed in-house or in association with Amazon MGM Studios. And there are some impressive titles in the Prime Original line-up. Shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty, Bosch: Legacy, Fallout and Harlen Coben's Lazarus have all got critics excited and fans talking. Most Prime Originals are also available to stream in 4K resolution, which is a nice bonus if you have the right screen.
It's also worth noting that now Prime Video has a lot of rental options. So when you log on to your Prime keep an eye out for the 'Available with Prime' symbol. If it's not there, then you may have to pay extra to rent or buy the content.
Prime also conveniently doubles as a hub for a bunch of other streaming channels, so all your services are in one tidy location. Currently the Prime Video Channels you can link and access in the same place include HBO Max, Paramount Plus, BritBox, beIN SPORTS, Apple TV, MGM Plus, Hayu, Crunchyroll, Lionsgate Plus, Shudder, HIDIVE, Stingray All Good Vibes, DocPlay, Rialto, AMC Plus, Playkids Learning, The Great Courses Signature Collection, Gaia, Curiosity Stream, MUBI, Love Nature, Acorn TV, OUTtv and iwonder.
Best internet plans for Amazon Prime Video
The amount of data you need for streaming isn't really a factor because most internet plans in Australia come with unlimited data. What does matter is the speed you have. Speed is a shared resource between all the devices in your household.
If you live in a home with two to four people we recommend at least an NBN 50 plan so a few people can either be streaming different things at once, browsing the internet or downloading something simultaneously.
