OPPO is kicking off its year in phones early, today announcing the launch of the AX7 through Optus Prepaid.
While the OPPO AX7 is a fairly typical budget smartphone, it has a standout feature: a tear-drop notch display. Much like the pricier R17 Pro, OPPO's AX7's notch has a tiny drop shape notch, simply featuring a single front-facing camera. This gives the phone a 88.4% screen-to-body ratio, which is pretty high for its price range.
Key specifications for the OPPO AX7 include a 6.2-inch 720p+ display, a Snapdragon 450 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, a 13MP + 2MP rear-facing camera, and a hefty 4,230mAh battery. The AX7 runs OPPO's customised version of Android - ColorOS - based on Oreo.
The OPPO AX7 is available for $319 through Optus from today as a prepaid handset. While this is a discount on the phone's outright price, it is locked to the Optus network. If you want to unlock it, there's no fee after you've recharged your service to a minimum of $80. Otherwise, you'll pay $80 to unlock the AX7 if you've been with Optus less than six months, or $25 thereafter.
Here's a selection of Optus' prepaid plans:
You'll also be able to get the AX7 unlocked and outright for $399 from a number of retailers including JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, and The Good Guys. OPPO has yet to confirm exactly when the AX7 will be in stores, but it shouldn't be too far off.
The OPPO AX7 comes in a choice of "Glaring Gold" or "Glaze Blue", but colour availability will depend on retailer.
